[Settings Overview](https://support.webcemeteries.com/getting-started?hsLang=en#settings-overview) # How to customize Grave Statuses [Grave Statuses](https://support.webcemeteries.com/hc/en-us/articles/5806279831963-how-to-update-the-status-of-a-grave-burial-right?hsLang=en) are the color-coded labels — like "For Sale," "Reserved," or "Occupied" — that appear on your map and help your staff instantly see the state of any grave or plot at a glance. ![](https://support.webcemeteries.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-May-31-2025-05-16-54-0576-AM.png?width=424&height=265&name=image-png-May-31-2025-05-16-54-0576-AM.png) With webCemeteries, you're not locked into a fixed set of statuses. You can create new ones, rename existing ones, and choose the exact colors that appear on your map. Whether your cemetery uses unique terminology or just wants colors that are easier to tell apart, customizing your Grave Statuses keeps your map accurate and meaningful for the people who use it every day. ### Getting there ### Step 1 Log into [webCemeteries Management](https://management.webcemeteries.com/). ### Step 2 Click the **Settings** icon at the bottom of the left-hand menu. ![](https://support.webcemeteries.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jun-12-2026-02-11-41-9960-PM.png?width=408&height=1167&name=image-png-Jun-12-2026-02-11-41-9960-PM.png) ### Step 3 Select "**Grave Statuses**" under **Locations** from the left Sidebar. ![](https://support.webcemeteries.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jun-12-2026-02-12-50-6370-PM.png?width=471&height=879&name=image-png-Jun-12-2026-02-12-50-6370-PM.png) All cemeteries start with these default statuses: ![](https://support.webcemeteries.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jun-12-2026-02-18-35-7460-PM.png?width=670&height=360&name=image-png-Jun-12-2026-02-18-35-7460-PM.png) ### Grave Status Order ![](https://support.webcemeteries.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jun-12-2026-08-15-49-4473-PM.png?width=670&height=360&name=image-png-Jun-12-2026-08-15-49-4473-PM.png) **How the order affects your map** When a single mapped location (like a family plot or mausoleum) contains multiple graves with *different* statuses, the map can only show one color for that spot. The order of your Grave Statuses list decides which color "wins." The higher the number, the stronger that Color value will be.
